FedEx Express announced that Roxo™, an autonomous delivery device will make its international debut in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.).
Roxo™ designed to travel on sidewalks and along roadsides, was created to safely deliver smaller shipments to customers’ homes and businesses. The same-day delivery assistant includes pedestrian-safe technology from the iBot, plus advanced technology, such as light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and multiple cameras, allowing the zero-emission, battery-powered bot to be aware of its surroundings.
The tool that FedEx hopes will add a new dimension to the last-mile delivery market features a machine-learning algorithm to detect and avoid obstacles, plot a safe path, and allow the bot to follow road and safety rules allowing it to be neighborhood and terrain safe.
“The FedEx SameDay Bot is an innovation changing the landscape of on-demand hyper-localized delivery, and we are excited for Dubai to be the first international city to host an appearance by Roxo. The U.A.E. is recognized internationally as a future-forward city, with a positive regulatory framework, world-class infrastructure, and a fertile environment for the testing and adoption of robotics, and we look forward to testing Roxo here in the future.” said James R. Muhs, Regional President for FedEx Express in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
Roxo is also currently being tested in the U.S. FedEx plans to collaborate with companies to help assess their needs in Dubai, and eventually in the U.S as well. More information can be found at thefuturefedex.com .
