LinkSure Network, a Chinese free Internet Access Provider (ISP), revealed its plans to launch a Wi-Fi satellite in 2019, according to a report from China Daily. This would be China's first Wi-Fi satellite, which aims to provide free global Wi-Fi by 2026.
"The very starting point of such a plan is to offer free internet connections to people around the world, especially those in undeveloped areas or rough terrain," said LinkeSure Network Rotating President Wang Xiaoshu.
This is similar to SpaceX's plan with its Starlink constellation, which recently received approval from the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to launch 7,518 satellites.
