Airwavz Solutions and Globalstar have agreed upon rights to offer Band 53 for in-building wireless services. Airwavz received rights to lease Globalstar's Band 53 under the agreement. Globalstar will seek to further develop the spectrum and supporting ecosystem for in-building services and for mission critical applications.
Globalstar's Band 53 received 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) approval in December 2018, and is well suited to meet future in-building wireless connectivity demands, according to the release. Globalstar's terrestrial Band 53 holds physical, regulatory and ecosystem qualities that distinguish it from other 5G spectrum allocations.
"Massive Internet of Things (IoT), Private LTE Networks, Smart Buildings, and Property Technology (PropTech) are only a handful of the use cases that will require advanced wireless infrastructure," said Mark Horinko, president, Airwavz. "The potential to offer our commercial real estate clients robust wireless services, based on both licensed Band 53 and quasi-licensed Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) is driving us to innovate and breakthrough current business models and technological barriers. Until now, this option really did not exist."
